In Matthew 16:13  When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of man is?” 

The wide range of opinions, speculations, assumptions , even shots in the dark  really have not changed much in 2000 years! 

Jesus face has graced the cover of most major leading magazines in the world. More has been written about Jesus then any single person in human history yet he still remains thee most mysterious, controversial, and  polarizing  figure in human history. 

 We don't have to look any further then Matthew 16 to understand why! 

Verse 15-16 explains it 

“But what about you?” 

Jesus asked. 

“Who do you say I am?” 

Simon Peter Answered, 

“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

There it is!  A thermonuclear statement that would forever  transform the landscape of human history.

 Peter was the first! but untold millions have followed, receiving the very same life altering revelation when Jesus said; blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed  by flesh and blood, 

But by my Father in heaven! 

 My wife's favorite movie of all times is the 

"10 Commandments"

 Of course the movie  comes from the story recorded in Exodus 3.  Moses was standing before a fiery burning bush on mount Sinai. God told Moses I'm sending you  back to Egypt to deliver my people out of slavery!

When Moses with knees knocking and voice trembling  asked God; what is your name and who should I say sent me? God's answer was! Tell them "I AM" sent you. meaning I am the eternal , eternally unchangeable, I have no past, no future yet I am eternal present, self existing,  self-sufficient. 

So when Jesus said this in John 8:24, 58 " For unless you believe that 

I AM

 You will die in your sin,  and before Abraham was

I AM!"

That statement infuriated the religious and political leaders of that day and from that point on they conspired to put Jesus to death. 

Unknowingly they were playing right into God's eternal redemptive plan! (see below)

As I'm writing this my thoughts are drawn to a historical story that we  celebrate yearly yet sadly so few comprehend its magnitude! 

Luke 1:26-33 

God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, ²⁷ to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. ²⁸ The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”²⁹ Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. ³⁰ But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. ³¹ You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. ³² He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, ³³ and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

Mysterious! Controversial!  Polarizing!

Absolutely!

Jesus also said this about himself; 

I AM the bread of life, I AM the light of the world, I AM the good shepherd , I AM the resurrection and the life, I AM the way, the truth, and the life!

The world beheld the most extraordinary things  human eyes have ever witnessed! 

Jesus raised the dead! healed the lame , opened blind eyes and deaf ears! walked on water, feed 5000 with a couple fish and a few loaves of bread.

But the most shocking! amazing!  historical fact is that Jesus himself made a pre-planned personal sacrificial offering of his life on the cross! (There it is from above mention, Gods eternal redemptive plan at work) He said his eternal planned purpose was to;

 Rescue, Save, And Restore 

Lost humanity from its terminal condition, and permanent separation from God.

Jesus perfectly satisfied Gods justice 

making it possible for you and I

 to receive Gods mercy!

 Did the impossible by rising again from the dead (3) days after His death

He single-handedly destroyed the power that death held as the final word.
